Camping in Herzegovina

Herzegovina blends warm climate, clear rivers, and stone towns that feel alive. Camps line the Neretva and Buna, lake shores near Jablanica, and quiet valleys that are ideal for families. You can bring a tent, park a camper, or book a cabin or dome. Everything is close enough for easy day trips to Mostar, Blagaj, and Kravica. Use the map to check what is open, compare facilities, and book with verified hosts.

Why choose Herzegovina

Days are long and sunny from late spring to early autumn. The water stays clear and cool, perfect for swimming and rafting. Roads follow valleys which makes driving simple even with a larger vehicle. Food is fresh and local, from grilled trout at riverside restaurants to home-made cheese and Herzegovinian wines. Most hosts speak English and are happy to help with plans.

Best areas at a glance

Mostar and Blagaj

Riverside camps and small parks close to the Old Bridge and the Buna spring. Perfect for short stays with culture and food within minutes.

Neretva canyon and Konjic

Scenic drives, rafting trips, and shaded pitches near the river. Good choice for active days and calm nights.

Jablanica and the lakes

Lake views, swimming spots, and family friendly sites. Ideal for kayaking or a barbecue by the shore.

Trebižat and Kravica

Green pools and a famous waterfall. Many campers use this area for a two-night break on a longer trip.

Trebinje and the south

Warmest part of the region with vineyards and a relaxed old town. Handy base if you plan to extend your trip into Montenegro or Croatia.

When to go

Main season runs from May to September. July and August are hot, with average highs around 30°C, which is perfect for rivers and lakes. April, May, and October are mild, often in the 18–24°C range, and best for hiking and sightseeing. Some camps near cities open earlier and close later. Use the All season filter if you travel outside the main months.
Events worth noting: the Mostar Summer Festival in July, Trebinje Wine Festival in August, and rafting events in Konjic during spring melt.

What to expect at camps

Most sites offer level areas for tents and vans, electric hook ups, clean showers, and Wi Fi near the reception. Many family run camps add small extras like local meals, guided walks, or fresh bread in the morning. Look for icons on each card to confirm hook ups, amp rating, water points, disposal stations, pet policy, and maximum vehicle length.

Getting there and around

The main access road is the M17 through the Neretva valley, linking Sarajevo and Mostar. Approaches to camps are usually paved with the last stretch on gravel if you are close to a riverbank. If your camper is longer than eight metres, check the Max length field on the listing. Parking is generally on site.
Rail also connects Sarajevo and Mostar, but to reach camps you need a vehicle. For visitors arriving by air, Mostar has a small airport, while Sarajevo and Dubrovnik (Croatia) are the main gateways.

Booking tips

Use the Region filter set to Herzegovina and then refine by Theme such as Riverside or Family. Open the map to check distances to towns and swimming areas. If you travel with a dog, select Pets allowed. If you need stronger power, pick a site with a higher amp rating. Prices are shown in BAM with EUR equivalents. Tourist tax may be collected on arrival depending on the municipality.

Safety and good practice

River currents are stronger in spring after rain. Swim only where locals do and follow site signs. Use the designated disposal points for black and grey water. Charcoal or open fire is allowed only where the host confirms it. Respect quiet hours and keep noise low near riverside pitches.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are pitches powered
?

Many pitches include electric hook up. Check the amp rating and book a powered pitch type if needed.

Can I book a cabin or a dome instead of a pitch ?

Yes. Herzegovina has cabins and glamping domes, often with lake or mountain views. Use the Stays tab to see them.

Do hosts take card payments ?

Some do, others prefer cash. Each listing shows accepted payment methods and you will see this in your booking email.

Is Wi Fi good enough for work ?

Expect reliable Wi Fi in common areas, often at the pitch. Speed varies. If this matters, choose a site that lists Wi Fi and mobile coverage.

Can I bring a dog
?

Many camps are pet friendly. Use the Pets filter and check house rules for leash details.

How do I book rafting ?

Many camps can arrange local rafting or connect you with a centre. You can also browse Activities on the site.
